RACE 2027
The 2027
Ocean Globe Race
The Ocean Globe Race is a return to the ethos of the very beginnings of round the world yacht racing. The first edition began in September 2023, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first iconic Whitbread race. It was a resounding success for those brave enough to dare, to accept the challenges of adventure and self-reliance.
This is an amateur race, a true Corinthian endeavour that honours resourcefulness and determination. In a world of leading-edge technology and mega budgets, it is an opportunity to return to a less sophisticated and more affordable format for a racing circumnavigation. An opportunity for ordinary sailors to achieve something exceptional.
The Notice of Race specifies pre-1988 vessels fitted out to World Sailing category 0 requirements. To bring 40-year-old boats up to this standard is part of the challenge, and it's a big one. Then there is the requirement to use only astro navigation, GPS is not permitted. Access to modern satellite-based technologies with on board computing power is also forbidden. No daily grib files or global forecasting software; just weather faxes, a radar, a barometer / barograph and the Mark 1 eyeball.
If this is a challenge that moves you to aspirational thoughts, we can help you achieve your dream.
The route
Starting in Europe in September 2027, the OGR is a 27,000-mile sprint around the Globe spread across four legs taking in the Southern Ocean and the three Great Capes. The start/finish port is yet to be announced but stopovers are Cape Town in South Africa, Auckland in New Zealand or an Australian port, Punta del Este in Uruguay before finishing back in Europe in April 2028.
